The Pasco AIDS Support Community Organization History & Mission
The Pasco AIDS Support Community Organization was started in October of 1987 by a handful of volunteers to address the problems resulting from Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) in Pasco County.
P.A.S.C.O., Inc. was organized to provide community action in responce to the AIDS epidemic which includes promoting community AIDS education and awareness, ending discrimination and prejudice against victoms of AIDS and HIV infection, insuring the most effective use of existing resources and developing additional resources in the battle against these afflictions.
P.A.S.C.O., Inc. was recognized as an organized corporation by the State of Florida on June 14, 1989. In March of 1992, P.A.S.C.O., Inc. received authorization by the United States Government Internal Revenue Service as a 501(C)(3) Not for Profit Charitable Organization.
P.A.S.C.O., Inc. is dedicated to provide services to all HIV+/AIDS individuals and their families without regard to age, race, religion, gender, national origin, sexual orientation or physical abilities. All persons requiring services or program assistance can make contact or application through any elected officer or Board of Director through our twenty-four hour a day Hot-Line (or, through e-mail or, in person). Individuals may also learn of our services and programs through our newspaper releases, newspaper articles, television advertising on local access cable, as well as our educational information pamphlet which lists our array of services.
P.A.S.C.O., Inc. provides convenient, confidential consultation for thore infected by the HIV virus. The organization attempts to accurately access the conditions, needs and requirements of our clients and when neccessary make referrals to the appropriate physiological and sociological professional support services.
P.A.S.C.O., Inc.'s funding is raised entirely by volunteers who give their time and talents to help our clients fulfill their basic necessaties of life. All monies raised goes directly to our clients in need. We have no paid employees on staff, everything that is accomplished is through the dedication of our volunteers. It is because of the support and compassion of these fine people that allows us to make a difference in the lives of those who are bravely fighting this dreadful disease.
When funding becomes available, P.A.S.C.O., Inc. provides financial assistance to those only infected with the HIV virus. When all other avenues have been exhausted, P.A.S.C.O., Inc. will assist in the payment of such utilities as electric for cooking and heating, gas supplies for cooking and heating, local telephone services, rent, medical needs as well as other financial hardships that may occur as necessary. P.A.S.C.O., Inc. has an excellent reputation within our community concerning all of our health related issues. Believing that education is essential to the well being of our community, numerous members of our group have made presentations at local schools, other civic associations, health care facilities and organizations, as well as fulfilling other speaking engagements as they become available to us. We also have provided the opportunity for local health care officials to come to our group and speak on any and all AIDS related topics.
P.A.S.C.O., Inc. provides all of our clients access to food and nourishment on an on-going emergency basis to ensure that all nutritional requirements are met for the maintenance, wellness and survival of the individuals and their families.
In summary, P.A.S.C.O., Inc. shall continue to be Pasco County's first and foremost AIDS service organization through our next ten years as a group, providing a common forum and safe haven.
